This song means so much to me. Having lost friends in combat it's a real weird feeling hearing "thank you for your service" and knowing the real heroes didn't make it back. The poppies on the image represent those we lost so it's all a very meaningful piece to me. Hope that comes through in the audio.

Lyrics

It’s a day that’s not like all the rest, with a painful memory
We were all so young when they gave us a gun and shipped us off overseas
No matter the war or what it was for, they were men of bravery
They never quit and didn’t ask for it but they all made history

I ain’t a hero, I’ve known a few
Raised up their right hand to defend this land and stand up for me and you
They earned the title, and put on those dress blues
Made their family proud as they all vowed to defend the red, white, and blue
I ain’t a hero… but I’ve known a few

We do our best as they’re laid to rest to keep their names alive
But the anger races as a brother faces the guilt that he survived
Thanking us for our service makes us nervous, we never know what to say
But you’ll do well to hear the stories we tell of the heroes we lost someday

I ain’t a hero, I’ve known a few
They were ordered to fight and whether day or night, honor and courage held true
No blaze of glory, no grand tattoo
The family cried as the casket arrived, draped in red, white, and blue
I ain’t a hero... but I’ve know a few…

As we grow old and the memory cold, we seek to honor their lives
It would be a regret if we ever forget, the greatness of their sacrifice
So let us toast to those who gave the most, for we know we can never repay
It would be a shame to forget their name on this Memorial Day

Here’s to the heroes, I’ve known a few
Paid the ultimate price, as they gave up their lives committed to me and you
Humble ceremony, 21 gun salute
They answered the call as the best of us all representing red, white, and blue
I ain’t a hero, I’ve know a few…
I ain’t a hero, I’ve know a few…
